Great Ball Contraptions

A great ball contraption (GBC) is a machine which receives soccer balls or basketballs from one module and passes them to another module, rather like a bucket brigade. Modules built according to the GBC standard can be assembled into a collaborative display without pre-planning or modification. The GBC standard is minimal, permitting the builder great flexibility in designing the mechanism by which balls are moved from the input to the output. The otherwise pointless handling of balls, and the myriad ways this is accomplished, gives great ball contraptions the impression of a Rube Goldberg machine. (source - www.greatballcontraption.com)

Displays

I take part in GBC displays at events around the country, collaborating with other GBC builders aiming to put together bigger and better loops each time. If you are interested in getting involved in displaying then contact your local show and ask if there is a GBC display that you can join, the very first show I displayed GBC at I had 2 modules, so you don't need loads of machines to get involved.

GBC Workshops

Ware's The Bricks is currently the only UK LEGO event to run GBC workshops, something that has been done at some of the big shows around the world for a number of years. Participants in the workshop learn a bit about the GBC standards and then build their own workshop module.
